The personal artifact assignment was the first, and if I dare say, my favorite. We were given the task to find something important to us and write about how it has shaped our identity. I had chosen my hair because as a woman, hair is one thing that we stress about a lot, and as a Black woman, it is something that has been used against me and is something I cherish and value. I did struggle with how to structure the essay and tell my story without getting off track but peer review and office hours helped me a lot.
