    Personal Artifact Essay Reflection

This essay was a good way for me to express my frustration with society and the way that society treats black women. I wrote this essay to reach people of color but specifically women of color and to tell the story of many women of color’s hair journey and how many women of color feel. I used certain words and phrases such as “white, creamy crack” to emphasize how addicting texturizing your hair can be and how you feel going through that type of journey. Whilst drafting and having peer review, I realized that my audience isn’t just people of color or people who are educated about the natural hair journey so I had to be more specific, describe and inform my readers of things that may seem normal or common sense to me. Also, I was able to have office hours with Alyssa, ask her for her feedback regarding my work, and edit my essay to a point that I thought was good and would give me a good grade.
