    Researched Subculture Position Paper Reflection

Writing this essay was stressful but at the end, I felt satisfied with what I wrote and felt great about it as well. What made this essay stressful is that I couldn’t pick a subculture first and when I did, I wasn’t able to narrow it down and when I did finally, I had trouble structuring the essay. With the help of peer review with members of my cohorts and office hours, I was able to figure out how I wanted to structure my essay and get my point across which fulfilled the fourth CLO “Develop and engage in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes.” The purpose of me writing this essay was to try to convince anyone with some sort of influential power in our society to raise up to the necessary people that AAVE shouldn’t be seen as something that illiterate people speak or people of lower socioeconomic status but rather as a dialect and should be taught/accepted in schools as well. With the peer review also, I was able to formulate an argument which fulfills the sixth CLO, “Formulate and articulate a stance through and in your writing.”  After tackling those three problems, I had to find sources to support my claim which I did but I did go over the amount of sources which were required so I fulfilled the seventh CLO, “Practice using various library resources, online databases, and the Internet to locate sources appropriate to your writing projects.” My favorite part of the essay was that I was able to express myself with my style of writing which is getting personal whilst also staying within the professional/scholarly margin of writing and educating my audience which fulfills the first CLO “Acknowledge your and others’ range of linguistic differences as resources and draw on those resources to develop rhetorical sensibility.” I do love research papers as they challenge me, and my research skills and I do hope that I do get to write more.
